The Grosser Ahornboden in fall
This photo tour allows you to photograph stunning alpine scenes with no or minimal hiking and most photo spots are only minutes away from our hotel. This minimizes travel times and allows us to spend more time on location.
The photo tour is set up to offer a learning experience with photo sessions in the field followed by editing sessions in the hotel where I’ll teach you all of my tricks in Lightroom and Photoshop.
The Grosser Ahornboden is one the most spectacular landscapes in the northern Alps, offering towering cliffs, ancient maple (Ahorn) trees and free flowing rivers. It’s a true photographer’s heaven that somehow isn’t that well known outside of Austria. During this photo tour we’ll photograph the fall colours that adourn the trees lining the valley in October. As a bonus for the last night we’ll move to the pictoresque town of Golling to photograph the Gollinger Wasserfall.

Itinerary
The photo tour is set up as a relaxing learning experience with plenty of time to edit the results from our field excursions.
Saturday
After the pick up from Innsbruck Central Station we’ll drive straight towards our hotel at the Grosser Ahornboden. After check in we’ll explore the valley and prepare for our first evening shoot.
Sunday
We’ll photograph the morning light from a photo spot super close to the hotel. You can choose to photograph ancient maple trees or a beautiful stream that curves through the landscape.
After the morning shoot we’ll take time for our first photo editing session where we can see the result of our field trips. This gives us great opportunities to improve our compositions as we’ll revisit the same spots later in the tour.
After lunch it’s time to leave for an afternoon excursion to the Isar Valley. Here, the Isar river meanders through a wild valley with an amazing skyline in the west. If we’re lucky we’ll see fresh snow on the peaks! For our evening shoot we’ll move back to the Ahornboden valley.
Monday
It’s time to wake up extra early as we photograph the first light in a new part of the valley where we’ll shoot the massive eastern wall of the Roßkopfspitze. A small river serves as foreground. This location also allows us to practice with neutral density filters to blur the water.
After a hearty breakfast we’ll have another editing session. Those who want can join me on another excursion to photograph fall colours close to the river, those who want to rest can make use of the spa and sauna in our hotel. For our evening shoot we’ll revisit one of the locations from earlier in the trip.
Tuesday
It’s time to leave the Grosser Ahornboden. After one last morning shoot we’ll pack our backs and move to Golling an der Salzach. Here we’ll photograph the Gollinger Wasserfall, a beautiful waterfall surrounded by an amazing and wild forest. If we’re lucky, fall colours will be in full swing during our visit!
After dinner, we’ll present each other our favourite photos of the tour and discuss what we learned during the trip.
Wednesday
Sadly, the last day of the tour. If there’s time we’ll revisit the Gollinger Wasserfall. After this we’ll head back to Innsbruck Central Station where I leave you with a camera filled with photos and a head filled with memories.
